Chess cups, opens and festivals in Sofia 8

The steadiest fixture in Sofia is Cup Milenium, a rapid tournament at ten minutes plus five seconds, played about once a month in a restaurant on the lower level of the Millennium centre on Vitosha boulevard and run by a club from Dupnitsa. The Bulgarian Chess League brings company teams together for corporate championships in the Metropolitan hotel and for the Chess Battle rapid and blitz days in Bulgaria Mall.

Two international festivals are held in private schools: Pitagor Elit, in its second edition in April 2026, and Herea Druzhba in Obelya, in its seventh in February 2026. University teams and individuals meet for their national championships in the canteen of the National Sports Academy. The Cup of Sofia is a tournament for players with visual impairment. Cup Struma belongs to Pernik, and Cup The Mall, a blitz event, has no edition after 2024 on record.
